Conner Maxwell Claims Final Pro SXS Pole of 2025-26 CORR Season at Firebird

After scoring his first win of the 2025-26 Championship Off-Road Racing (CORR) season at Firebird Motorsports Park last month, Conner Maxwell joins Pro SXS points leader Beau Judge as just the second driver to have both won a race and qualified pole in the premier class this season. Maxwell’s 53.874 lap at Firebird in Friday’s Round 9 qualifying gave him the pole by .327 seconds over Kyle Arkenau, whose 54.201 was just one one-thousandth of a second off the lap that gave him the pole for Round 7 last month.

Robert VanBeekum kicked qualifying off in Pro NA with his second straight pole, taking the top spot by .143 seconds over Ryder Chapman in what turned out to be the smallest gap of the day. VanBeekum’s son and points leader Ryder will start third on Saturday as he looks to lock up the title and $5,000 champion’s award from series sponsor R-n-R Steel.

Besides VanBeekum, only a handful of other racers were able to back up their top qualifying times from last month. They included Johnny Holtger in Pro Lite, Carson Greco in Pro Am, Murphy McKay in 250 Modified, and Greyson Gentry in 170 Production—who will start his pursuit of both 170 class titles from the pole on both grids on Saturday.

Holtger and Gentry were just two of the incoming points leaders to take the top spot on the time charts today, alongside names like Paul O’Brien (SR1), Carson Greco (Pro Am), Michael Burnstein (Pro Am Turbo), and Mikey Childress (Youth SXS). Judge, on the other hand, will begin his pursuit of the $5,000 champion’s award from R-n-R Steel from ninth place, although he enters with a 51-point lead that should soften the blow.

Provisional top qualifiers on Friday included the following:

UTV, Car, and Truck Classes

  • Pro SXS: #191 Conner Maxwell, 53.874
  • SR1: #11 Paul O’Brien, 56.430
  • Pro Lite: #44 Johnny Holtger, 56.991
  • Pro Am: #155 Carson Greco, 57.022
  • Pro NA: #64 Robert VanBeekum, 57.746
  • Pro Production: #88 Todd Wittman, 58.284
  • Pro Am Turbo: #295 Michael Burnstein, 59.046
  • Sportsman: #223 Liam Cadwell, 1:00.400

Youth Classes

  • Youth Production: #117 Alex Ranuio, 57.103
  • Youth SXS: #84 Mikey Childress, 1:00.854
  • Youth Restricted: #151 Ryder Greco, 1:01.140
  • 800 Open: #747 Zeppelin Ledbetter, 1:07.349
  • 250 Modified: #98 Murphy McKay, 1:12.965
  • 170 Limited: #208 Greyson Gentry, 1:13.700
  • 170 Production: #208 Greyson Gentry, 1:17.046

Track Facts

Firebird Motorsports Park has been the most frequent host of CORR events, including the entirety of last season’s racing and four of this season’s events. The Arizona venue has undergone multiple reconfigurations since it was first built in 2008, with its current layout matching a high-flying frontstretch with a series of tight hairpins.

Racer Spotlight

The final event of the CORR season means plenty of big storylines coming to fruition with the crowning of this season’s champions in Round 10 on Sunday. Title winners will be honored initially right on the podium after their final race of the season; the official series banquet will be held at a later date.

More than $10,000 is on the line for the biggest winners of the weekend. Longtime series sponsor R-n-R Steel has put up $5,000 apiece for the champions of the Pro SXS and Pro NA classes, which are currently led by Beau Judge (+51 in Pro SXS) and Ryder VanBeekum (+22 in Pro NA). If that wasn’t enough, Johnny Holtger’s dominance of Pro Lite has been so thorough—he comes into the weekend with a 78-point lead—that any driver who can beat him in Sunday’s finale will earn a $3,000 bonus of their own.

Plenty of championship battles are far from settled. In three of the younger classes, the gap between the top title contenders sits at under 15 points:

  • 170 Limited: Greyson Gentry leads Zeppelin Ledbetter by three points, Kaysen Stowell by five, and Stetson Wyman by eight.
  • 170 Production: Gentry leads Krayton O’Connor by three points in a bid to sweep both 170 divisions.
  • Youth Production: Kyle Niner has a 14-point lead over Tatum Foerster.

They’re not the only classes where the leader is still within reach, though. Besides VanBeekum’s 22-point advantage in Pro NA, Paul O’Brien (+20 in SR1), Michael Burnstein (+21 in Pro-Am Turbo), Tim Jones (+26 in Sportsman), and Krew Hart (+28 in Youth Restricted) have solid leads. Each is the clear-cut favorite, but against some talented fields, it’s most likely that they’ll need both race days to button up the title.

Some drivers, meanwhile, have been so dominant all season long that they’re likely to clinch just by taking the green flag. These names include Matt Dyer (+39 in Sportsman Turbo), Addie Atteberry (+43 in 800 Open), Jeremy Spears (+70 in Pro Production), Mikey Childress (+79 in Youth SXS), Carson Greco (+86 in Pro-Am), and Elliott Brooke (+86 in 250 Modified).

Finally, this weekend’s commentary team will see a familiar face return to the world of short course to call the champions home. Ken Stout will join Jim Beaver and Tiffany Stone on the call for this weekend’s races—but instead of handling play-by-play, he’ll put his expertise as a team manager on display as race analyst. Stout managed his son Robert’s championship-winning SXS program in 2019.

All CORR races will feature television coverage on the RACER Network, as well as free live streaming on multiple platforms. Click here for the full CORR schedule.
